The Aces picked up their first 2 points of the season with a 9-6 win over the the Summerside Western Capitals Friday night. Fans at the GCC witnessed an entertaining contest with no lack of production from either team.
The Aces got on the board early and often in the 1st with Liam Smith netting his first Junior A goal at 2:25 of the opening frame. Just over 2 minutes later Ethan Stuckless twinged the twine to also record his 1st Junior A goal. The streak of first Junior A goals continued as Alchorn and Zimmerman both scored to give the Aces a 4-0 lead just 11:57 into the first and ending the night for Caps tender Dominik Timej. The Aces then took a couple of penalties giving the Caps potent power play a 5 on 3 advantage. Brodie MacArthur scored on the 5 on 3, and 22 seconds later T.J. Shea scored to bring the Caps back within 2. When play resumed to 5 on 5, the Aces scored 15 seconds after the Shea goal to regain a 3 goal lead, and the period ended 5-2 with the Aces outshooting the Caps 13-10 .
The teams exchanged Power Play goals in the 2nd (MacMillan for the Caps and Zimmerman for the Aces) before T.J Shea recorded his 2nd on the night at 17:29. The period ended with the Aces up 6-4 after 40 minutes.
At 13:57 of the 3rd Shea completed his hat trick and brought the Caps to within 1 but Ryan MacDonald restored the Aces 2 goal lead less than a minute later. Shea scored his 4th of the game at 17:28 and the Aces once again found themselves leading by 1 with the score 7-6 before Holstein and MacDonald sealed the deal with empty netters giving the Aces their first win of the season with a record of 1-1. Shawn Wiranata picked up the win in goal for the Aces.
The Aces travel to Edmunston to take on the always tough Blizzard, Sunday Sept. 23rd for their first road game of the season with a 3:00 P.M. puck drop. Aces fans can watch the game live at Pizza Delight in St. Stephen on their big screen TV!
